nfadywin
Before I start let me tell you the story. My friend had 2 hard disks. He later took one out. Things were working fine. Then by accident the other hard disk became unlinked. He linked it up again to the cables. Now ever time he boots up (he has windows 98) it says Hard disk not found click F1. when click F1 it boots up normally. The drive is shown to as C. How do we get rid of the request at the beginning? Cheers.
-pops-
Where does the disc live on the IDE cable? It ought to be on the end connector and its jumpers should be set at "Master".Check this before doing anything further.

nfadywin
One more thing, can anyone tell me how i can edit a post that i have written???????
-pops-
To edit your post -> look under your details box on the left of the page. To the left of "Quote" is a curly arrow like icon. Click on that and you should then be able to edit.Master/slave. On the top of the drive will be a diagram labelled jumper settings or something like that. The diagram shows the positions required for the jumpers at the back of the drive to be in. They will be labelled something like "M", "S", "CS" standing for Master, Slave and Cable Select. To operate correctly, the "C" drive - with the operating system on it must be Master. You say there are "a few IDE cables". It would be unusual if there are more than two. These are labelled on the Motherboard IDE 0 and IDE 1 or IDE 1 and IDE 2. The "C" drive must be on the IDE 0 cable or its equivalent and attached to the connector at the end of the cable which is normally coloured black (the blue connector is to the motherboard). Ignore the grey connector in the middle if there is nothing to connect it to.
