Tony Posted October 2, 2004 Report Share Posted October 2, 2004 Hi allI am thinking about buying my son for Birthday & Xmas a games console XBOX, PS2 or Game Cube.Now the question i am going to ask might be a bit on the dodgy side.If i am going to spend € 40/50 per game for him, i would like to be able to make back up copies of them. As he will only be 7 years old, and i don't want to run the risk of him scratching the games disks.So is it possible to make back ups and what is the easiest system to do them for.I did hear a long time ago that the XBOX is virtually impossible to back up the games as the actual DVD drive in an XBOX spins in reverse to any other DVD drive. How true this is i have no clue.This is perfectly legal to do in Germany (for the time being), you are allowed to make back up copies of games and DVDs.If anybody here knows anything about this subject, if you don't want to post it here on the forums, you can always email me.I would be very grateful for any info on the subject.Thanks to allTonyPS Sorry to the MOD's if this subject is too close to breaking the terms and conditions of the site, feel free to remove. Scarecrow Man Posted October 2, 2004 Report Share Posted October 2, 2004 Actually, PS2 DVD-ROMS spin normally (clockwise I believe), Game Cube has a smaller disc, and reads outside in (as apposed to inside out), and XBOX reads the discs backwards (counter-clockwise). Therefore making the only possible game to back up, a PS2 game. But, PS2 will not play a burned disc.Therefore, the only way to make backups is illegal, and I cannot discuss it on this forum. Rebel=UK= Posted October 2, 2004 Report Share Posted October 2, 2004 You can buy mod chips this is legal, its your machine you can do what you want with it, as long as the chip BIOS isnt shipped with MS code (maybe a Linux based BIOS called Cromwell) . thus letting you back up your investments on the xbox harddrive...........
