There is a list,as long as your arm, in "System Properties", of the removed components. I baulked at removing "I.E", simply for the fact of not being able to access MS Updates without it (now that is surely a restrictive practice - if you are unable to access updates with any browser other than "I.E") but "O.E". bit the dust. I also kept "W.M.P.", as I find it as good as any other media player and I have a particular dislike for "Real Player". My WINDOWS folder is now down to 586 Mb, there is nothing there that is not of use to me. It may be my imagination, but everything seems to be much faster, start up and shut down certainly are. "Photoshop" is rendering multi-layered PSD images much faster than it was previously and that is what I wanted. I now have a Digital Darkroom with word processing abilities and Internet access, no gimics, no games, no crap - bliss. I did think about doing a "Black Viper" on the services but, in the end, I was reasonably judicious with the pruning - you never know when you might need one of them. Suffice it to say that I am delighted to have stumbled across your topic, without it I would never have realised that it was possible to break free from the MS Straitjacket. Guest be@vis Posted October 10, 2004 Report Share Posted October 10, 2004 It has to be admitted that my knowledge of "Photoshop" mirrors my knowledge of a conventional darkroom. There are sections of the prog. that I have never visited and, probably, never will - it's simply a more comfortable way of producing the final print, whether or not it is as skilled is a matter for another discussion. So, if you have any questions keep them simple - preferably phrased in words of one sylable. I also use "The Gimp", which I like very much and I'm hoping that a stripped down O/S will tame it's tendencies to refuse to save Tiffs at the most inopportune moments. It's been long enough now and everything is behaving perfectly so I have ditched my old drive image and created a new one - no going back now! Since the install, my system log has been void of all the little red circles and yellow triangles which once populated it. NOD 32 now does a full system scan in70 secs. rather than the 3mins+ it used to take and Spybot, which, took 7mins+ in the past now scans in just over 3.
