What USB cards actually work?

Recommended Posts

Hi, my motherboard has a SiS 7001 USB chipset on it, and my BT Broadband USB modem keeps losing sync. Also, my Logitech steering wheel is often laggy. I have looked on the internet and found that the chipset is known to have a problem (power management?).

So I went and bought a PCI USB card from eBay for £15, and this has the same problem too - but has a Via chipset. I have now been told that ALi chipsets can also have this problem.

So my question is - what cards/chipsets actually work? Apparently Lucent chipsets are good.

As a small scale computer builder, I've installed dozens of USB/USB2 PCI cards from all sorts of sources on various machines and never had a problem with them not working.

I can't say what chipset or any other hardware they had on them because there was never an issue that would have caused me to look.

What I am trying to say is that there must be something fundamentally amiss with your set up to cause this problem.
