Opening folders

I am using windows XP home, with SP2. When double clicking a folder icon the search form comes up instead of opening the folder. If I right click on the folder the menu that comes up has the Search command bold at the top, and the open command is down lower in the list. I think that the open command used to be bold and at the top of the menu. To open any folder I have to right click and go to the open command. I think this happened at the time that SP2 was installed. I don’t wish to uninstall SP2. (restore) as it took some time to install, and several other programs have been installed since. Isn’t there some way to rearrange the menu so that the open command is bold at the top? That should fix the problem so that double clicking the folder will open it.

Start > Control Panel > Folder Options

or Open My Computer > Tools > Folder Options

Click the File Types tab. Find Folder and/or File Folder and click Advanced. Set Open as the default.

Thanks, last evening I searched on Google and found found the following

folder_open.vbs- Fixes the problem where Search or Command Prompt opens when double clicking a folder

Occasionally the Registry entry for File Folders (Directories) gets corrupted. One effect of this can be that Search or a Command Prompt opens when you double click on a folder in Explorer, rather than the folder opening. This VB Script will make the necessary change to the system Registry to correct this.

Usage: Download folder_open.vbs and save this file to your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it and double click the file. A confirmation dialog will appear when finished. This script can be viewed in Notepad or any text editor, as to the specific Registry key and value that are updated.
