yeah, for some time now i've been hearing about firefow. lots of folks like it. but i know it dont work with every site, ie, windows update, and a few others i cant remember right now. so a lot of people use both. ie6 for keeping windows updated and such and firefox for all other places it will connect to. so my question is, how do i install firefox and configure both ie6 and firefox. and how do i make it switch between the 2 for when i need ie6 and use firefox? i know they do it but i dont know how to setit up for that. any suggestions?

do i leave ie6 in place or remove it. cause im thinking with theproblems im having now withit coming up and asking me sometimes if i want to run script and activex it might be corrupted. im thinking i might have to remove it then reinstall it from the download i got from ms. first then do the firefox thing once its working right. is this anything close to what youd suggest?

You don't need to remove IE to install any other browser.

You can surf the net using as many browsers as you like.

I suggest you install Firefox and see how you get on with it, millions of others have.

You can use IE and Firefox at the same time with no problem.

I use Opera and IE, they are both in use at the moment :)

I'm not sure what problems you have with IE, I only use IE for Windows Updates and such.

I suggest you install Firefox and use it for the majority of your browsing for the time being.....get used to it etc.

One step at a time :)

im downloading firefox right now. the problems ive been getting with ie6 is messages popping up saying your security settings do not allow for activex controls to be displayed do you want to use them. and also scripts are usually safe to use do you want to use them. i have checked the security settings for internet intranet and trusted sites and they all are set to allow activex controls and set to allow scripts. so why does it keep coming on and asking me? thats what i was talking about. i've had to reload scripten 5.6 a time or 2 over a matter with nis's2004 liveupdate to get it to give me all nis2004's updates. and i had a prg called windvd recorder on here but apparently its just a trial or something cause after a week it no longer will let me use it. it kept coming up with you can upgrade in youd like. i told it no and hit play again and same thing. so i removed it. but it asked me for a whole bunch of associated files may no longer be need deal and i let it delete them. ever since then i get the page error and activex and script messages. thats why i asked if i needed to just remove and reinstall ie6 first.

Ah, I see :)

So many people have changed to different browsers these days because IE causes problems etc........ see how you get on with Firefox, I'm sure you'll be pleased.

I use Opera, my son uses Firefox.

Good luck, I'm off to bed now.....it's past midnight now :)

im using firefox right now and its a bit different than what im used to with ie6. for one thing im used to having my favorites opened up on the left side and click the link i want to go to. this things harder to deal with. you have to click bookmarks then choose. favorites stays on till i close it. i have to click bookamrk every time i wanna change places. the tabbed browsing thing, eh, i like ie better. ill play around with this for awhile and your right i can click on my ie icon and pull it up at the same tiome and run both browsers at same time. idont know yet about firefox, i'll give it some more time.

im using ie6 now. i ran a checksisk and , of course the message at the end flashes up and off so quick you cant read it, i did see it reset some stuff. i had it set to auto correct any errors. maybe that'll fix up ie6. we'll see. that firefox is ok i guess. i can use them both. but if ie is working right i'll probably use it more. i just dont like the way you have to mess with the favorites counterpart. but i do like the fact you can keep open the connections to a page click another and keep several open pages at the same time. that i like.

i dont know about this firefox thing. it changed some stuff and i had to change them back. it made some things not work and i had to reinstall them. i had to make it show everything again in IE because it changed it to firefox. like the e:drive. my cdrom. i went in and was looking for something on my disk and all the files that were all along being viewed by IE was changed to firefox without my knowledge. it was a simple matter to switch it back. but other prgs i had installed started failing to work. with the firefox showing stuff i couldnt even run the winzip. after i switched it back to IE it worked just fine but i still had to reinstall a couple prg's. because of firefox. and now firefox wont even open up but one window at a time just like IE does when clicking on different sites in the favorites. i may just get rid of firefox. im disliking it more and more.

It seems to me that there is something severely wrong with your computer. Much more than merely having problems with I.E.

Firefox shouldn't make any difference to your computer other than install itself and work.

The computer I am sending this from has I.E., Firefox, Opera, Netscape, Avant and Crazy Browser installed. The browser I use as a norm is Firefox but I am able to use any of the others as I wish and even have all of them open at the same time. There is no conflict between any of them.

Under circumstances such as those you are experiencing, I would seriously consider a new installation of the operating system.

i was able to use both at the same time, no problem there. but like i said, i went to look on a disk i had for a prg. and anything that was a html doc as such, was changed to a firefox symbol instead of IE. so i right clicked/properties/change/selected IE to get it set back to IE. the thing is why did it change that in the first place. i never set firefox as the default. i still have IE as default and can just click on the desktop icon to bring up firefox whenever i want. the prg i had to reinstall was addit pro for my fs92004. i hit the icon and it came up with a bunch of stuff errors. and i had to hit taskmanager to stop it. it froze. so i had to remove it and reinstall it and it works fine now. i have been over at pcpitstop and run the tests over there and also i have a prg i just got from the intel site to which my mb is from. a d865perl. i just had it put in last week. and everything is fine with it. and the test results came back good on the intel prg. its a desktop controller. it has what i was looking for, a stress testing prg. it ran 9 tests simutaneously and everything passed with flying colors. theres nothing wrong with the computer. i was just a bit miffed about it changing the view of doc files and such from IE to firefox and i didnt tell it to do that, it just did it on its own. and miffed a bit about having to reinstall 1 or 2 prgs that worked before the firefox install that didnt work after. thats what i was trying to say, maybe i just didnt state it in the right way, if so, im sorry for that. and the last time i had IE up and then pulled up firefox to show my wife how it worked, i told her, see how you can click a place, then click on another one and the first one stays on the taskbar so all you have to do is click it to switch between them. well, it wasnt doing it. right after i installed it it did work but now it isnt. i mean, firefox still works, and since i reset the view to IE instead of firfox and reinstalled the prgs that quit working after the install of firefox, everything is ok. just a bit miffed about all the hassel i had fixing stuff.thats all.i stil have firefox on here but will use IE more.
