Java Application error

Hi all,

I have installed win2k advanced server and oracle 8.1.7. It works fine. After i installed MS Office 2003 i am getting below mentioned error after i starts my computer. error as follows:

Java.exe – application error

The instruction at “0x500bf974” referenced memory at “0x00000e7f”. The memory could not be read.

Click ok to terminate the program

Click CANCEL to debug the program

How can i fix this problem? Can anyone help me in this regards? would be appreciated.

Do you know which Java you have installed?

I suggest that you download the Sun Microsystems version as the Microsoft one is not now supported.

Disable the Microsoft Virtual Machine (their name for Java). In Internet Explorer go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced. Scroll down until you see Microsoft VM and untick as necessary.

Get Sun Java from http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

There is also a version 5.0 (formerly 1.5.0) available at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp

Actually, does anyone know here what's the difference between 1.4.x and 5.0 ? And why they keep releasing new versions of 1.4 when a completely new version is available ? Just curious... :blink:

i found the way to getting that java 5 runtime. had to do a little jumping round but got it. do i need to uninstall that 06 ver first then dl/d and install the 5 ver, or leave it alone.? i left it alone this time and just installed the 5. i have 2 listings in add/remove 1 for each prg. if you can tell me about that, then when i get my new os from newegg and install it i'll know which one i really need. the 1.4.2_06 or the ver5 runtime java. looking at getting new os friday by what fedex delivery time shows.

I have used 1.5 since the early beta, then installed the final release when it became available this summer, then re-installed it when it was renumbered to 5.0.

It works both ways, but I recommend that you uninstall the current version, then install v5 into a new set of folders (C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0). (The previous version that was still named J2SE 1.5.0 installed in C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.5.0).

i jus got back up and running after the reinstall of new os w/sp2 and like i said in the other thread i got an error from ms when i linked out of a forum to the sunjava page for an article. i got a ms popup for something i sent the error report and then it popuped again for drwatson ms error. i sent that and it froze the computer had to eventually hit reset. got the runtime java 5 dl/ld installer and fixin to run it. left post in other thread and came to this one. o tried the rundll32 line in the run command and it came up saying could not be found. and after reading this one again i did the internet options advanced thing and i dont even have a listing for msjvm in it. so im guessing i dont even have a java and that may of been what happened. correct me if im wrong, but im fixin to install the runtime 5 right now.

You sure you downloaded the Windows version? What is the name of the install package?

[Added] The names (for the 5.0 version) are jre-1_5_0-windows-i586.exe (offline) or jre-1_5_0-windows-i586-iftw.exe (online).

i have tried both of the windows online installers and neither will install cuz of the see if it exists and could not open verify its a valid installer package error. trying the off line one now.

as i said in the other thread. the offline dl/d of sun java 5 installed for me. the online ones wouldnt do it.

as stated in other thread. it just ie errored on me and closed ie. guess the java thing wasnt the fix. also just awhile ago i was notified and i got the cumulative ie update. maybe thats why it did it again.
