CD-Rom driver problem

I have two optical drives on my system.

one is an NEC NR-7800A (CD-RW) and the other is Matshita DVD-RAM LF-D310.

The DVD-RAM part seems to work fine, but the CD-Rom drives (the DVD

also contains a CD-Rom) both are saying " The device is not working

properly because Windwos cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31) The trouble shooter was no help.

These were working fine this morning until I tried to install Roxio Easy

CD Creator 5. It said that it couldn't install unless I removed the DVD-Ram

driver first. I went to the systems/hardward area and clicked on the DVD drive

and selected uninstall. After a couple of seconds, I got the BSoD and when

I rebooted, I could no longer access my cd-rom drives. I've tried uninstalling

both drives, removing them from the machine and putting them back one

at a time. They still don't show up in the "My Computer" window. If

I tell it to reinstall the drivers, after I reboot and check the device manager,

the devices look fine. The still don't show up in the "My Computer" window

and if I select "Scan for hardware changes", the machine will work for a second

and then there are yellow exclamation points on the two cdrom drives and I

get the same message about code 31. Both drives list these drivers:

C:\win2k\system32\drivers\cdrom.sys

c:\win2k\system32\drivers\redbook.sys

c:\win2k\system32\storprop.dll

I have heard so many problems with Roxio CD writer. I went with a friend to look at a new computer earlier this week. I told the shopkeeper that she MUST have Nero bundled with the CD writer. He replied that from past experience he NEVER installs anything else.

The one thing about roxio that I really liked was the ability to

format a CD and treat it like a blank disk. I could open it in explorer

and drag and drop files onto it just like any other disk.

Now I have to open a program decide on all the files I want

on the disk and then burn it. Any idea how I can get a CD to act

like a regular disk?

thats why i dont have it installed. it came with my other computer the dell 8300. used it for a bit then got rid of it when i installed a dvdr/rw sony drive. it had prgs on the driver disk much better than roxio. now im down to just the dla prg from that disk. since the cd/dvd burner prg i have now came with my new mb in my new puter. a nti cdmaker. seems fairly easy to deal with. oh, the dla, thats drive letter assignment.lets me drag and drop without it sitting there waiting for me to tell it to write. saves a little time.
