micken
I run a small home network, currently two W2K desktops and an XP laptop. These get heavy use so I intend to build a new desktop based on an AMD 64 processor (I might also upgrade to XP Pro, but I'm not sure if it's worth it). This will be the broadband gateway and 'server' from which I can maintain the other machines.I am weighing up the pros and cons of various maintenance options and software packages. I intend to backup or image to a spare hard drive.I can upgrade to Norton System Works Pro 2004/5 for about £53.00, this has a current version of Norton Ghost and various other backup and maintenance options. An alternative would be to go with Genie Backup Manager Pro 5.0 from www.genie-soft.com, I'm using the trial version at the moment and it looks good. I can purchase this for about £40.00.I know that the key to this is actually having a managable process and sticking to it.I have read the guides in these forums and they are very much appreciated.Anyone have any further thoughts on this? micken
Thanks Scarecrow Man, I have downloaded True Image 8.0 Trial and I'm playing with it. Pity I can't get Norton Ghost 9.0 to try on a similar basis, 'coz the two look pretty similar with = pros and cons.Any comments of experiences with either of these products would be most welcome.BTW considering the incremental backup capabilities of both of these products, I'm wondering if it's worth going with a dedicated backup prog like Genie.Comments?
