mel251 Posted October 29, 2004 Report Share Posted October 29, 2004 HiSorry if this is a numpty question.I've been getting loads of emails associated with Netsky D and Q (mail delivery failure, your document etc), and since finding out my computer was infected, I've used STINGER, and NTSKYGUI to disinfect. However, I'm still getting the emails. I thought, eg, with the mail delivery failure notices, that they were as a result of the virus trying to send emails from my computer, and the AV programs of the recipients bouncing them back. How does this work if the virus isn't there anymore?Should these emails have stopped now that my computer is supposedly clean, or have I totally got hold of the wrong end of the stick?Thanks for any help. bvw Posted October 29, 2004 Report Share Posted October 29, 2004 As your computer was infected.....look in your address book.Everyone in there has been sent emails.... containing the virus.If any of them do not have updated anti virus..and opened "your" email...they are infected.Their machines will be sending virus emails to everyone in their address books..and so it continues...on and on.....The virus "spoofs" the sender's email address..........the bounced emails you are getting are not the ones you sent....they were sent from another machine that spoofed your email address.It's a never ending story.No virus scanner or one that's not updated.........you know the consequences. bvw Posted October 30, 2004 Report Share Posted October 30, 2004 Sorry if this is a numpty question.There's no such thing as a numpty question :) they are only easy if you know the answer, Chris Tarrent says it all the time :D I guess this is "Ask the Audience" ? ;) The last time I had these spoofed emails I contacted the people in my address book who I suspected may not have up to date anti virus. It only took a couple of days to pinpoint the person and get them to install AVG (they had no virus scanner installed at all). It'll take a few weeks maybe, it's hard to say.
