Dial up connection speeds?

What sort of connection speeds can I expect from dial up. I did a download speed test and the results were 40.3 Kbps or 4.9 K bytes/sec.

My current ISP that I’m with here in New Zealand seems very slow at times, I would have changed by now but my telephone toll calls are cheap.

I have 2 PC’s main one usually connects at anything below 52 Kbps I have just connected now to send this message & my Slipstream Web Accelerator was unable to connect at 49.2 Kbps I have EZ Firewall & EZ Anti Virus. 2nd PC in garage connects at 53.4 Kbps and below with Zone alarm firewall & AVG anti virus.

So what sort of dial up speeds should I expect to receive? I don’t wish to go broadband as yet, as I had that in the UK just prior to moving to NZ in 2003.

I thought 56k Modems cannot go over 49,900bps.

The only thing that would hinder your connection is the physical phone line the data is travelling on and proximity to the server.

When I used to have dial up, a click on the small green screens bottom right hand corner, used to show anything between 42000 and 52000

dial up here too. only thing is i only get around 24 up to 26 on my speed. think its due to the older lines out here. when i moved my trailer onto the land i have now someone else had had a trailer here before with all the hookups. my decision for getting the land. move trailer in and hookups already there. septic, water, elec, and phone. no tellin how long the phone lines been in the ground already. been here myself for 12 years. probably jus old, decreped lines. but theres not much i can do unless i wanna spend alot of money rerunin lines from the main junction to the house junction. thats about a hundred yards. too expensive for me.

I have dial-up too. Can't afford anything else  :(

Unfortunately my download speed comes in at 2.9kbs on a really good day.

Just took 19minutes and 24 seconds to download the 3.274 mg update for my antivirus program.

Oh well, it beats no internet access at all  :D

Same thing here :D except I have no choice. :(
