AOL Wirelessly HELP ME!!

I have:

-AOL 512mbps

-1x Desktop

-1x 802.11g Centrino laptop

-1x Netgear DG834G Router

I purchased the Netgear one on the understanding that it was one of the few that actually works with AOL.

I received it last night. Couldn't complete the installation

I need some help with the connections/wires.

I have disconnected the phone cable from the back of the BT Voyager 105 ADSL modem and plugged it into the DG834g. I have plugged the DG834G into the PC via the ethernet cable, and all the green lights on the front of the router are on.

I still have the BT Voyager modem connected to the pc via the USB cable. I assube this is not necessary?

Anyway when I try to access the 192.168.0.1 page via Internet Explore, I get' page cannot be displayed'. And therefore cannot complete the installation. The laptop cannot pick up a signal from the router. THe only way I can connect to the internet is via the BT Modem and thus disconnecting the router.

This problem is driving me insane can someone please help!!

Not trying to fob you off but, the Netgear helpline is very knowledgeable for all sorts of problems with their equipment. Give them a call - the number should be in the booklet that came with the router

In your router manual, look for configuring PPPoE. AOL Broadband makes you "log in" using Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) before you can actually get to the Internet. You'll have to know some settings from AOL to put into the Router.

You should be able to get to the control panel for the router even if you can't get it to connect to AOL. You may however only be able to do this using a PC connected with a network cable.

From a PC connected using a cable (Netgear should have supplied one) can you ping 192.168.0.1? If not you need to look at why you can't!! Make sure the PC is set up to obtain an IP address automaticaly and doesn't have a fixed IP address.
