I had my console cable with db-9 female at the other end and I have bought db-9 Male to db 25 Male for it to connect to my Compaq Evo N1000V COM port. I also had configured the hyper terminal as below:COM1Bits per second: 9600Data bits: 8Parity: NoneStop bits:1Flow control: NoneI cannot seem to see any response from the router on my hyper terminal screen as I have switched it on obviously... :( If anyone knows any solution I should take, please let me knowThanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

n1ghts Posted November 20, 2004 Author Report Share Posted November 20, 2004 I have been doing research about it via cisco.com, it appears that I cannot just mix and match the combination of the physical cable to be used to connect to the router from the pc com port. n1ghts Posted November 20, 2004 Author Report Share Posted November 20, 2004 yupe most probably since i just went offline to check whether the parallel port is disabled or not?it appears to be enable for the device security in bios menu. I did also wait for 5 minutes for nothing, just to see the miracle happened but it did not....well I will purchase the recommended physical cable then..by the way, just one question, do u know how we can see the status for every port we used?for example if we use the com port for connecting our printer, is there a way to see its status whether it is currently busy or even better we can see the flow of data coming in and out from there just like if we use ethereal to see through our ethernet connection?thanks scarecrow Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

homecomputeraid Posted November 20, 2004 Report Share Posted November 20, 2004 I've had mixed outcomes when using HyperTerminal and trying to access devices including Cisco Routers. It sounds like you're heading in the right direction with the cables. You might want to download TeraTerm. It's a free utility and includes an SSH interface.
