stevedecho
HELP!! Before doing a clean install of XP Home on a Win ME system, I backed up hundreds of files on a 1.7 GB Sec Master and 5 GB Sec Slave Maxtor drives. The XP install reformatted and loaded onto the 60 GB C drive, Pri Master. Now, xp sees all the files on the 5 GB (E drive) but says that the 1,7 GB (D drive) is unformatter, asking "do you want to format now?" No, I don't want to reformat and loose all the data that's there. Is there any way to coax XP into reading this disk? Thanks!
madboy33
it may be that the old drive is FAT32
stevedecho
I've downloaded several freeware/shareware/demo disk recovery programs. It appears that the 1.7 GB drive is FAT12/FAT16, and the recovery programs do seem to work - for a price. XP is supposed to support FAT16 & 32, and it had no problem with my 5GB drive. I'd pay the money if the data was very critical, my wife's car didn't go in for $800 in repair today, and I hadn't been downsized out of my job last year. Guess I'll keep poking around till I find a cheap answer.
