Voice over MSN

My chum and I are both using MSN mine is ver 4.7. We have both acquired mikes and have been trying to talk to each other tonight, without success. My mike is certainly working, i.e I here the sounds from my speakers when I tap the mike. Have clicked on the "invite someone to a conversation" but no joy. Any help out there?

well, my daughter was trying to get on her yahoo and msn chat and she coulnd get yahoo but got msn to work. she had told me she couldnt get sound to work through the mike on either place. i went looking for anything she might have put on the system without my knowledge. i found one prg that was not there in add/remove before. i deleted it. then she couldnt get on either place. after discovering what the problem was. i found out the prg i deleted was sun java runtime 2. after going to ms and looking it up i found out that ms's virtual java machine is being phased out. and they reccommended you to get another jave prg. they give links to sun java for getting java. i got it and now she can access both places with mike for talkin to friends. might try this route. look in add/remove to see if you have sun runtime 2 listed. if so delete it if not then just go to ms type in java in the search bar and it takes you to a page of links click the one on top for sun java. itll take you to their site where you can dl/d sun java. once installed see if that fixes ya up. both of you guys may have to do this.

madboy makes a good point. my daughter uses msn and yahoo messenger but she like yahoo better than msn though. oh well. i myself dont use any of them. except for pm;s sent to me i have it go to my yahoo email then i can link out to the message. or be on the forum and have it pm me there. dont know if that has anything to do with the messenger prgs. dont know too much about them., since my daughter uses them and i dont. but the sun java thing did fix her problem and now it works fine for her. but this guys problem is just a bit diff. since i take it he wants to talk between just him and his friend. madboy is right though you both have to have the same messenger. i think its 6.2 now on the msn messenger.

Been to that link madboy and downloaded all I got was the "message" that it was done. Went into the help and checked the version and got Windows Nessenger.net ver 4.7(4.7.3000) So it appears to be the windows messenger and not M$ messenger. What else should I do the get my chum to follow.

My version of java seems to be Java\j2re1.4.2_05\javaws

Try the simple stuff first - your firewall, or your friend's may be blocking it. Set your firewalls to allow mesenger. I had a similar problem contacting my son - his firewall was the problem. But we eventually got fed up with MSN Messenger because other problems kept arising so we switched to Yahoo Messenger. We've had no problems with Yahoo.

Taken your point madboy and have now got Microsoft messenger 6.2 only needs chum to make sure he's got the same.

Redhat I'm on a straight DSL BB link but chum has a wireless router. Have to wait 'till he's online to follow through.
