doug Posted December 9, 2004 Report Share Posted December 9, 2004 Thought I'd post these to see how they come out. As some of you know my wife has some disabilities. Her right leg doesn't work now, consequently she hasn't been able to drive these last 18 months. The good news is that she has successfully passed her Motorbility assessment for driving and braking with her left foot only. Modified license is in the post and insurance Co. notified - for anyone in the North East as she is doing the driving tomorrow. The car was converted yesterday to a Flip Up accelerator pedal. You can get lifts etc. to move them in and out but they look like mechanical monstrosities.The other good news is that we've just taken delivery of the new high tech. NiMH battery for her PowerTrike. Whereas the old one was a sealed lead/acid type and rated at 7 AH, the new one is Nickel Metal Hydride and rated at 12 AH. Hopefully the volt/amp characteristic is flatter than the Pb one. Yesterday we did about 9 miles around Sunderland and the old battery was definitely flagging on the slight uphills. Mind on the down hills I was having to run to keep up - and I wasn't kitted out for running. Some of these wheelchair drivers go speed mad on the pavements. I keep yelling at her from a distance 3.5 to 4 mph and that's a very brisk pace. She's got a speedometer so there's no excuse. djohn Posted December 9, 2004 Report Share Posted December 9, 2004 I'm fortunate now in having an electric scooter that I can take with me in the car. I have a Vauxhall Zafira and with the rear seats let down an electric hoist lifts the scooter into the car for me then when I get to a destination I just unload it and off I go round the shops or whatever. :) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
