Missing fonts

I upgraded to a Windows XP system two weeks ago. The computer was professionally built and included a "mirror" harddrive. Don't know if this has any effect on my problem or not. I put all of my old letters in specific folders. My letterhead used two specific TT fonts. One was Caslon Open Face (Caslonopnface BT) and the other was Formal436 BT. A few days ago they disappeared. When I open one of the old letters, although it says that the font in Caslon Open Face, the actual font shown in the letter is different - I don't know what it is. The same is true of the Formal436BT. The heading says that is the font, but the type on the letter has changed. I can change the actual printed area to different fonts, and it will reflect the change.

When I look in the font window I cannot find these fonts listed any longer. When I look in the font directory under C:\ fonts, these two fonts are not listed by name, but they are listed by their id numbers which are TT0581M_.TTF and TT1141M_.TTF respectively. So, I highlight one or the other and go to the copy file, then I tell it to copy to the C:\windows\fonts file and I get the message that it can't be copied as the font already exists, and to reenter it, I would have to delete the first font. But - how do I delete a font that doesn't show up in the file? Secondly, if the message is correct and the font is still there, why doesn't it show up and why have all of my letters been changed?

Have you tried a system resotre? Back to a time before your fonts went missing?

How many fonts do you have in your font folder and are any others missing to your knowledge?
