107606 Posted December 28, 2004 Report Share Posted December 28, 2004 I was just surfing and doing the things one does after neglecting inboxes for the Christmas period, and I had a load of crap install on my computer (toolbar, etc.). Went to remove these in the control panel - add remove programs option, which I did. It was then that something stirred...Firstly I noticed that all my favourites had gone. Then on the desktop there was nothing except for the waste bin, my docs, and my computer. The programs menu in the start menu said empty. However when looking back into the add remove programs box everything that should have been there was there.Then I thought 'I know I'll do a system restore back about a week or so'. So I did. Upon restart, it told me that NTLDR was missing and press cntrl-alt-del to restart, so i did. The same message.Now this is my problem. I cannot stsrt windows as NTLDR is missing.Firstly what on earth has happened, and secondly how on earth do I remedey this situation?Please please please please help! 107606 Posted December 28, 2004 Author Report Share Posted December 28, 2004 Thanks for that, I'll need to find a copy of the Boot CD as I dont have one!! Then I can havfe a look at it. Boris Posted December 28, 2004 Report Share Posted December 28, 2004 You'll need to change the boot-up order in the BIOS to ensure that it boots from the CD before the H/D.When you say you don't have a copy of the Boot CD - is that because you have an OEM restore disk rather than a "proper" Windows CD ? I do have the proper Windoes CD now.So can someone please try to talk me throuhg getting back into windows to retrieve my data. Guest myradon Posted January 21, 2005 Report Share Posted January 21, 2005 I had a simmilar thing happen. You should look for the "lost" files in the C:\Documents and Settings folder. For some outerspaace reason my windows decidded to create a new user without tellinng me, annd thhus i hhad to move all my desktop and other info out of the old user file to the new one.
