EdBoy7713
I'm looking at trashing my old computer, which basically is trash, with a 32 mb video card, etc. However I want to get a computer that really fits what I need, and that can do just about anything I could possibly want it to, gaming wise, except maybe some of the extremities like "Doom 3" or "Far Cry". I'm into gaming, like the "Medal of Honor" Series, the "Battlefield" serries, the "Unreal Tournament" series, possibly the "Halo's", etc. When I look into buying a video card, which I really want to stress getting a good one, should I look for one with speed in accessing it's memory, or the amount of memory it has, though it may take slightly longer to access it? For instance, the ATI Radeon 9800 has 256 mb of memory, but takes longer to access it, whereas the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro has 128 mb of memory and can access it quicker. Which type of video card do I want, for the purposes listed above? By the way, is there any way to have to video cards, like having a motherboard that can have two processors, in order to have premium video card speed or to buy two inexpensive ones that combine to make a pretty good one?THANKS SO MUCH! I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!!
LineOFire
It is possible to have two video cards but two worse cards will never equal the strength of the good card.I also would not go for a 256MB card. 256MB cards are really overkill. No game currently actually uses that much memory. I actually have a Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB card and it plays all games flawlessly on highest settings (including Unreal Tournament 2004, Counterstrike: Source, Battlefield: Vietnam, Halo, and Doom 3).If you gave us a price range it would also help to determine the best card for you. :)
Cpt James T. Kirk
good point line of fire. right now i have just a 64 mb nvidia card in mine. but after listening to people on forums about vid cards a 128mb card is the best bet. unless ya wanted to spend big bucks then get a nvidia 6800. they say it will handle any game out now no probs. especially doom3. but anyhow a 128 nvidia or ati will do just fine at a decent price. trackrat
To get a picture below your name click on my controls ( under the merry christmas banner) click on edit avatar settings ( in the left hand panel ) and either give an URL for your picture or upload one from your computer. The only way I have heard to use two video cards is to get a PCI express motherboard. But the more knowledgeable members will probably come up with another solution.
