Messages in Outlook Junk E-mail folder

Usually in Outlook, folder names in the folder list are shown as bold when the folder contains unread items, with the number of unread items in parenthesis.

It seems that the Junk E-mail folder does not follow that rule: it is always bold, even if there are no unread messages in the folder. And the number of items are shown in square brackets.

Is this intentional, or is there a way to fix this? It is quite irritating - I need to check the Junk E-mail folder for false positives when there are new items in it.

The Junk E-mail folder resides on an Exchange Server 2003; I use Outlook 2003 client.

My ISP filters most junk email for me and I also use ePrompter to check my mail before Outlook gets a look. So, unless I've been a bit trigger happy with the mouse button, there is never any junk mail to get on to my machines.

Note to anyone reading this: If your ISP (mine is BT) has a junk mail filter, use it but, important, check periodically at what it has filtered out. These filters can make mistakes but they are also trainable to allow or disallow certain mailings.

Our company has just installed Exchange Server 2003 with IMF, and they are still setting things this and that way. It may be a while until the find the right settings with eliminating most spam, and avoiding false positives.

Anyway, I found the solution to my problem in Outlook Help:

1. Right-click the folder you want to display the total number of items for, and then on the shortcut menu (shortcut menu: A menu that shows a list of commands relevant to a particular item. To display a shortcut menu, right-click an item or press SHIFT+F10.), click Properties.
   
2. On the General tab, click Show total number of items.
   

Of course it is the reverse action I wanted: Show number of unread items.
