Vasichko
Got a Fujitsu Lifebook with XP SP 2 on it. I have one that works perfectly fine. The other, one day decides not to want to accept a correct IP, it will only get 169.0.0.0 wireless. I am clueless as to why it will not lease and IP wirelessly. Scarecrow Man
Is it DHCP or static (does it get the IP automatically or did you define the IP manually)?try opening up a command prompt window, this can be done by going to Start > Run and type cmdThen type, ipconfig /releaseipconfig /renew
Vasichko
It is set to automatically obtain an IP. It says Im connected to my wireless network, but it gives me the Public Assigned IP

homecomputeraid
Even though the wireless will connect, it will only connect at layer 2 (MAC layer) unless your security settings are configured correctly. Make sure your SSID matches on both the Wireless Router, and the NIC. Also, if you have WEP (which I understand you don't like anyway) :) configured, make sure your encryption level matches, and your shared key is exactly the same on both ends. :)Have you enabled any other security like MAC Filtering on the Wireless? If so, make sure the MAC Address of your new NIC is added. If I had to guess, I'd go with SSID first. Post if you need help finding that. You'll have to look in the Wireless Routers configuration page, and on the laptop in the Wireless Utility program.
Vasichko
Yes, everything was correct. I just went back and did everything the same, works great now. Getting the correct IP. At most I think I may have made an error when typing my WEP Key... Damn SP2...
