Brightness problem or just a dim user?

Recommended Posts

As a relative new-comer to digital image processing/printing I’ve finally gotten round to getting my photos printed onto paper although I’ve noticed a significant reduction in brightness between what I see on my home computer and what I get back printed on paper. I am not printing the images at home but instead getting a reputable high street dealer to do the work for me. The data is being transferred via disk but I’ve also ‘tested’ the internet as a medium for sending the data and a different ‘reputable high street dealer’ produces exactly the same ‘dim’ results. Too say I am disappointed is an understatement with all my pictures coming back darker than I was expecting. Finally, I’ve noticed images I send to myself at work also appear darker; images I send to myself at home are not!

I assume I have a setup problem but don’t know where to start. I am using an Intel P4 system with a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420 display adapter.

Any ideas?

Joe

Are your dim results actually dim or is it because you are comparing them wht the pictures you see on screen? Do other people consider that your pictures are dim?

All computer screens are lighted, paper photographs are not. Is it because you do not have this back-lighting that you think the pictures are dim?

Hi -pops-

I understand what you are saying although other people have said they are dim also. Dark grey details are being lost in the darkes, especially in B&W pictures.
