deinstalling one of two windows installations

ok i tried to repair my computer and (i don't know how) i just installed another windows xp

version on my computer - now i have a folder C:\WINDOWS and a folder C:\WINDOWS.0

i could repair my old installation and want to deinstal the new one witch is the C:\WINDOWS.0

folder - so my question is how can i deinstal one windows-version without "touching" the other

installation - i'm sure it's not so simple that i can just delete the C:\WINDOWS.0 folder or?

is the any tool or something - it looks like the two installations were sharing everything - e.g.

the documents & settings folder where i have now both folders (the folders from C:\WINDOWS

and the folders from C:\WINDOWS.0)

is there any change to get my diskspace back?

There may be a procedure, but my personal recommendation would be a clean build (format the hard drive and start fresh). I'm going to leave it at that for now and hope someone has a better suggestion for you. If you have to do a rebuild, but need help with that, and need help backing up prior to doing a fresh install, please post.

I'd have to say my opnion concurs with that of homecomputeraid unfortuantely...

You have no way to know what other folders would need to be removed...

Maybe try a "System Restore"...

i maybe have an idea - if i make a ghost backup or

something like that - burn it on a dvd - formate

the drive and put back the backup? - than i will

have again both or?

If you boot from the Windows CD, you can start the recovery console. This will allow you to repair the crashed windows system. After this is done and all is working, if you delete the windows.0 folder you should be O.K.

Chances are you will loose some diskspace though.

This will just restore your computer to the way it is now. If your going to format, do a clean install.
