mouse driver and NIC troubles

Recommended Posts

I seriously need some help with this one...

What's happening is this:

A while back I was having a problem with my mouse driver being corrupted across reboots on my Win2k system. I thought I had that licked by switching the PCI slot the NIC I had just installed was in. Afterwards, the NIC still wasn't functioning (my linux box could ping it, but it could not ping the linux box - running through a crossover cable) so I swapped out the nic. Well, now back to the same situation.

Just to be sure, I booted into XP Pro and set up ICS. The IP was assigned fine, but: XP could ping the 2k box, but not vice versa.

I have tried the following:

  • changing the PCI slot
  • reinstalling drivers
  • Reformatting/reinstalling Win2k
  • Reformatting and isntalling WinME

all yielding the same results. And, to top it all off, 2k is screwing up the mouse across reboots! It's not corrupting the driver per se, just not recognizing it in general. When I reboot, it's about a 50% shot as to whether it'll work or not.

Any ideas?
