gorcq
I recently got a new computer running Windows XP Home Edition, which works pretty good except for one incredibly annoying problem. I use America Online, and therefore my HTML files were originally associated with AOL. I switched them to Internet Explorer, and IE opens them when I double-click them, but the icon that is displayed is the Windows Unknown-File icon. I tried switching the association to another program and then switching it back, which worked sometimes in my old computer with similar problems, but it didn't work. Then I tried downloading various programs that are supposed to allow me to change which icons are displayed on the different file types. All of the programs that worked showed me the same thing: the IE icon is aready displayed on my HTML files. Needless to say, this did not change the fact that what I see is the Unknown-File icon. Anyone have any ideas? I am attaching an image of one of my folders in case that helps. Robby
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I think this may cure your situation: download TweakUI from Windows XP PowerToys and install it. Then run Repair Icons.
gorcq
I just tried that. It rearranged the icons on my desktop and did nothing else that I can see.
scuzzman
When you double-click the *.htm files, does a program launch to open them? If not, then when it asks what program you want to associate with them, slect your browser, and check the box that says "Always open this file type with this program" (at the bottom)... gorcq
Yeah, like I said above, Internet Explorer opens the files when I double-click them. It just doesn't display its icon on them.
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
In Internet Explorer Options, tab Programs, do you have "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser" checked? If not, can you check it, then start IE, and make sure it is the default browser?
