Dev Posted January 30, 2005 Report Share Posted January 30, 2005 I have read and tried everything under the sun to fix this problem and nothing works. I can't uninstall IE6. I've repaired it numerous times, ran the winsock thing, hijack this.....reinstalled windows...when i try to uninstall it from add/remove, all thats available is add a component or repair...the remove is shaded as is the advanced button. I did all the stuff on the microsoft help and support pages...and still can't open a link....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Dev Posted January 31, 2005 Author Report Share Posted January 31, 2005 yes, i've reinstalled windows....it doesn't display any error message. if i click on a link, a window will open, but it stays blank. theres nothing in the address bar, nor does anything show that the page is loading at the bottom of the screen. its very frustrating. i think a .22 shell is about 12 cents....lol....that will fix it. i'm just beyond what else to do. :blink: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It seems to me however, that almost every time anyone posts a problem with IE, they are advised to download Firefox or something else. Admittedly, people have problems with IE and OE, but we also hear of problems with these alternatives. These problems do not appear so often as with the MS problems, but neither do the number of users compare. It is a sad fact that due to the number of idiots out there, determined to wreck peoples computers, that as these alternatives gain ground, so will the attacks against them, and so will the problems that befall the users. It is all very well being completely anti Microsoft, but let's get things into perspective, MILLIONS of end users are completely satisfied with MS products. How about thinking of some suitable help for the problem in hand, instead of virtually always suggesting an alternative, that may not look so good in the long term. No matter what problems I may, or may not encounter with IE and OE in the future, I personally have been MORE than satisfied with them to date. Sometimes I have to leave my cursor on the link and type it in the address bar while its showing at the bottom of the window. I do have firefox, and am able to open links in it, but I still need to fix IE. I'm unsettled on how I feel about firefox....it tends to freeze occasionally. andsome Posted February 15, 2005 Report Share Posted February 15, 2005 The big clue as far as I can see is that you are running Windows 98. I too found that I could not run IE 6 on Windows 98 on my old computer. I know several others who had the same problem. I seem to remember that if you click uninstall in Windows 98, you are given the option to revert back to a previous IE. I did this and had no more problems at all.
