xakep
I need to buy and install a flash card reader that would process at least 3-4 major flash card types. What is involved in installing and connecting one inside the computer case. I have checked out online catalogs but they don't give me a clue about connecting, i.e., insatalling it as a slave hard drive? as a CD drive? scuzzman
Most likely it will be installed similar to a floppy/hard-disk/cdrom drive. You should be able to simply connect the IDE/EIDE/SCSI/etc cables, power, just like installing a CDROM.
-pops-
As scuzzman says and, in addition, I have one card reader supplied with an Antec Aria case that attaches to an internal USB connector on the motherboard. The method of connection should be stated in the specifications of the reader. If you can't find it, let us know which device you are interested in and we may be able to find more details. xakep
That's to say that a Pentium 4 motherboard has an internal USB connection? Does it look like an external USB socket?
-pops-
That's to say that a Pentium 4 motherboard has an internal USB connection? Does it look like an external USB socket? Some do, some don't - depends on the model. They don't normally look like an external USB connector, just five pins in a row projecting from the M/B. Some USB PCI addition cards also have an internal connector. These normally do look like a conventional socket.

-pops-
Didn't even know those existed... Internal USB connections I meant. Most of the machines I've built since XP came along have had multiple USB connectors on the M/B. These were originally intended, I think, to provide extra USB ports via a PCI style plate on the back of the machine. More recently, as well as that, they provide access points for internal USB devices (?? so they say) and front panel ports and card readers. Similarly with Firewire but not to the same extent. scuzzman
Yes, I've just looked into it - never used them before, hence never noticed them... but my motherboard has them
