mateoc15 Posted February 12, 2005 Report Share Posted February 12, 2005 I am a developer and installed a shell that my team developed at work. The install replaced Explorer.exe (the purpose of a shell) and when I uninstalled it I expected the uninstall process to "unregister" the EXE as the replacement for Explorer.exe. Unforunately it didn't.I can get to task manager when Windows starts and run Explorer.exe, but it only runs the Windows Explorer, not the shell. Surely this is a registry setting of some kind. I did figure this much out...[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "Shell"="explorer.exe"That registry setting DOES exist on my computer and IS set to "explorer.exe". mateoc15 Posted February 16, 2005 Author Report Share Posted February 16, 2005 Actually, I'm in Windows and it is explorer.exe is not in the Processes tab of the task manager. The problem is that if I run explorer.exe the only thing that comes up is the Windows Explorer (file browsing) dialog. Explorer.exe is the shell I know, but that's not all it is.
