ThinkPad T23 screen resolution problem

we have 3 new ThinkPad T23's at work,

when we got them they were set on a resolution of 1400x1050, which was fine for me, but they are going out to some of our older engineers who dont have the best eyes or computer skills!

but when i reduced the resolution on certain settings, like 800x600 which i want to give to them, the display was distorted, so i looked thorugh the bios and found an option to stretch the display to fit the screen, so i turned this off.

however when i started it up again it only use a tiny part of the screen in the middle, so i looked through display properties and found an option to stretch it to fit the screen, but then this distorts it again?

i have tried downloading the latest drivers for the screen, the display adapter and did a bios update thing but i still cant get it to stretch but not distort?
