My OEM Windows XP Home didn't come with a disk but appeared to have a valid serial eky etc. There had been no problems until I recently tried to install SP2 from the windows update site. All other updates work fine, but SP2 says there is not a valid serial number entered. It is quite a slow machine (P4 1.6), so it is not worth paying a lot of money for a new windows licence. any advice please? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

-pops- Posted February 26, 2005 Report Share Posted February 26, 2005 My son was in Singapore the very day that Windows XP was launched to the public.Within a few minutes of the "official" launch the shops and market stalls were flooded with pirate copies of the software. Even before the launch, it was available in a number of places.The fact that you bought it in Malaysia doesn't bode very well in the prospect of it being a legitimate copy of the operating system and, as you are being told by the system itself that it is invalid, I would expect that to be the case.The only way to find out for sure is to contact Microsoft and ask their advice. They are quite sympathetic if you can show that you bought the copy of Windows in good faith and will offer discounts on a genuine copy (with SP2).By the way, welcome to Windows Forum :) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
