xakep
I am trying to fix a WinXP Pro in total disorder after someone succeeded in installing an additional drive and partitioning it. The result, however, is that the ADSL connection does not exist, drive C has Windows directory minus the Command, has the Docs and Settings, and the non-working ADSL shortcut. The “new” E drive has the Windows folder with the Command directory, and the copy of Program files from CThe E drive has a partition G that has the WINXP folder, the INSTALL LANGUAGES and the MS OFFICE.In addition to all this chaos, accessing the account management console produces a system error with the message of “HTML host” (think) failure. Further details reveal that the MHTA file is missing. The XP does allow to sign on as an Admin and to switch between other 4 users. What is the recommended strategy to dig out of this quagmire? Thanks in advance. -pops-
My first and foremost thing would be to contact this "someone" and either get him/her to fix their gross error or, beat them up.Sorry I'm not being more constructive but, installing a second or even more drives is not a complex procedure and should not cause any difficulties whatever. To make such a mess of it strikes of total incompetence.I have to ask this and I think I know the answer but, do you have a backup of your previous, working setup? xakep
No set up. I get to own or give away the PC if I get to an enjoyable working order - the original user gave up.
madboy33
Carry out a full format and delete the partitions
djohn
Hello xakep. I think the best option will be to format both drives, install XP again to the master drive [C] then partition the slave drive as you wish. It will be quicker to do this and give a clean stable system, only valid reason for not doing so would be if there are any extremely important files on there that you can't access at the moment to back up to a CD or other external device. If you require any help on doing this, please let us know and we'll offer as much help as required. Sorry to hear the present set-up is in such a mess but it can easily happen to the best of us. :)
