Catchpenny
I'm running a pentium 2 on NT and I've just added a system with 2 pentium 4's on XP Pro. I have ethernet cards in both of them and have a cable connecting them, but I've had no luck trying to get them to talk to each other...HELP! homecomputeraid
Catchpenny,It sounds like you have two machines connected directly to each other with one cable. Is that correct? If it is, you'll need a crossover Ethernet cable. If it's not the case (if you have a hub, or a router/switch), you'll have to make sure all the computers are in the same WorkGroup, and that you have a resource shared. Please let me know whether you have another device between the computers, or whether they're directly connected to each other.
Catchpenny
Concerning Networking NT with XP, yes, I do have both machines connected with an ethernet cable...no other devices between them. And thanks for the reply!Catchpenny

Catchpenny
I don't know. It's the same cable that I used to connect the NT machine with another NT machine.
homecomputeraid
If you got a link light between the machines (usually a small green light on the Nework Card), then you have a crossover cable and you're fine.Can you go to Start, Run, type cmd, and hit Enter. In the command window that opens up type ipconfig /all on both PC's and post the contents here? It will look like the following:C:\Documents and Settings\user1>ipconfig /allWindows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Computer1 Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : ABC123.comEthernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : frontrunnernetworks.com Description . . . . . . . . . . . : IntelĀ® PRO/100 VE Network Connection Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-E0-B8-6D-16-A5 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.202.166 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.202.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.202.11 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.200.17 192.168.200.18 Primary WINS Server . . . . . . . : 192.168.202.11 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Thursday, March 03, 2005 4:15:23 PM Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Sunday, March 13, 2005 4:15:23 PMEthernet adapter {45F7F700-9B72-4885-91DF-318BC3104E4D}: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Nortel IPSECSHM Adapter - Packet Scheduler Miniport Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 44-45-53-54-42-00 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :C:\Documents and Settings\Computer1>After typing ipconfig /all, right click on the title bar of the command window, go down to edit, then Select All.
