end program - explorer.exe

I have this problem:

when I want to shut down the PC, try to click on Start to go to Shut Down, the PC freezes up and doesn't shut down. Only when I use ctrl+alt+del I can go to shut down, when after a while the message:

'end program - explorer.exe' comes up. I had installed a DVD software player, but am not sure if this causes the problem. Would be grateful for any advice.

By a DVD software player - do you mean frontend software for a DVD player?

IE: you have a DVD player builtin to your computer, or external what have you, and the player (such as WinDVD, PowerDVD, etc) is what you installed?

I have an external DVD (Sony 700UL) and have installed WIN DVD 6 Platinum.

Have you uninstalled the applications in effort to see if it resolves the problem?

Yes, I have. But it happens occasionally, not regularly.

Problem is solved - WinDVD 6 Platinum was the problem.

Had to uninstall it completely.
