Guest a_naguib_2000 Posted March 3, 2005 Report Share Posted March 3, 2005 hi allIm reallly in a big problem, its the first time i see it in only windows XP (i have linux & millenium)..the problem is that the computer restarts at any time without any warning (Neither descending counting nor closing any application).. its just as if someone has pressed the reset button..ive noticed that it makes this problem when i open the taskmanager (from the taskbar or from alt+ctrl+del)... it also makes the same problem when i click on some buttons in some applications (provided that the same buttons may not make this problem happen in a later time and these buttons dont have a unique programming function except that it opens a new form)...ive checked and defraged the hard disk with windows millenium and no problems found... there are no bad sectors also...ive scanned the harddisk with norton antivirus and no viruses found...what is the matter then?can it be the processor or the vga card or the ram though they are working properly on windows me and linux??? -pops- Posted March 3, 2005 Report Share Posted March 3, 2005 Is there a report in the Event Viewer after this happens?XP takes a very large amount of computer power compared with ME or Linux and it may be that something in your machine is unable to cope. This is similar to WinXP's version of /var/log/syslogYes, that is what I meant by power consumption.If you have difficulty getting to the event viewer:RIGHT click on My computer and click on Manage. You will see Event viewer at the left. Click on the + sign and you will get three items: Application, Security and System. Click on each of these in turn and look at the readout they give you. Look out for anything that has a yellow or red symbol beside it. That should tell you of things that are not right in your machine. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
spikeychris Posted March 3, 2005 Report Share Posted March 3, 2005 To disable the restart, go to control panel then system then go to the Advanced tab, then Startup and RecoveryUnder System Failure you will see a check-box "Automatically restart" Uncheck it.
