Scarthy © ® ™
Hi all ;) ,I have had a go at this and thought I would post the links for anyone else who wants a go....SlipStreaming your Windows XP Installation Disc is a way of merging the files from a Service Pack with it. I have done this with SP1....The link is for doing it with SP1a (same really). With the upcoming SP2 looming from Micro$oft, I thought it would be a usefull link for anyone who is interested...I used...1...My Windows Installation CD.2...The SP1 file that I downloaded on my nephews computer. 125MB download (SP1 is replaced now with SP1a).3...ISO Buster4...Nero 5.5.x.x5...A blank CD-RThe full procedure can be read H E R E . Time to do approx 30mins to 1 hour (most time is taken up copying the XP disc to the HDD).What's the point in this? You Ask....Well if you were to use certain functions that ask for the Windows Installation disc to be inserted, these might revert some Windows files back to standard (pre SP1 versions). Also if you want to reformat, doing it this way, will reformat and reinstall Windows XP to the SP version you SlipStreamed. SlipStreaming is a function that Micro$oft have added to their new OS's, mainly for Server applications, but for Home use also...NB...Some users (those with Paint Shop Pro7) might not be able to locate the 'Microsoft Corporation.img' file from within Nero when trying to locate it. This is because the file will be displayed as a PSP7 image. In this case drop the file list (bottom) and select All Files... ;)
