Problem Marking Threads as Read

Hi all,

Since the Forum moved sites, I have noticed that it is nigh on impossible for me to mark threads as read, without actually visiting each thread concerned.

If I click on the "mark all posts as read" button on the main forum page, it does appear to mark everything as read, and all the markers turn grey. However, if I then leave the forum and return (either after a short period of time, or a day or so), all the posts I have not actually read are back marked again.

Is this just me, or is it affecting anybody else?

And yes I have tried all the usual crap - logging out, deleting cookies, clearing temp files etc.

Thanks.

Hello Agent Smith, Sorry for the delay in replying to your question, but I have not been on the forum much today and missed your post.

I'm a little confused with your question, well, with part of it anyway. Can you clarify please?

Are you saying that although you have marked all topics as read, on your return to the forum the ones you have not actually read, show up again as not being read even though no one has made a post to them?

As far as I'm aware this should not happen but I will test them myself on leaving the forum. I will mark all as read, even though I haven't, and see what happens when I log back in.

If of course someone post to the topics while I'm logged off, they will show up as unread on my return. :)

Agent Smith. I moved out of the forum, but did not log off. I never log off, just move, or close down for the night. After doing a bit of reading elsewhere for over an hour, I've just come back to find that all topics are still grey except for two that have had replies made to them in the past hour and a half.

These are showing as partly blue, if more post had been made, I assume they would have been a full blue. This drew my attention to the two topics as it should and shows that the system is working fine.

I'll wait for your reply to make sure I've understood your question correctly. Meanwhile maybe one of our members can shed some light on why this is happening to you.

Are any other members having the same problem? If so will you please post to this topic? Ta! dj

Hi Djohn, to clarify, the posts are all marked as read when I leave (after clicking the marks all posts as read button), but when I return all the posts I have not actually read are flagged as blue again even if there are no new posts.

I will attach a screenshot, which clearly shows some unread posts which are 4 days old, so nothing new.

I have also now noticed, that since messing around trying to sort this out, I no longer log in automatically when I come back to the forum, so I suspect this is a cookie problem.

Pleased your sorted Agent Smith. Yes, the best way of coming straight to the forum and by-passing the front page is to log into the forums then save that address in your favourites. Clicking on that link will in future bring you straight to the forum, there is no need to log out if you do not wish to, just leaving the forum will remove your name from the bottom of the page after a short period of inactivity. [15 Minutes].

Just to add a little more information to this for the benefit of our members. If your logged into the forum and looking at the index page but not moving around to read, search or post to a topic, then although you will always see your name at the bottom of the page on your screen, others will not see your name after approx 15 minutes of inactivity. Clicking on a topic, or refreshing the page will make your name visible to all other members once again. :)
