dadyassa
A worldwide survey was conducted by the UN. The only question asked was: "Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?"The survey was a huge failure...In Africa they didn't know what "food" meant. In Eastern Europe they didn't know what "honest" meant. In Western Europe they didn't know what "shortage" meant. In Asia they didn't know what "opinion" meant. In the Middle East they didn't know what "solution" meant. In South America they didn't know what "please" meant. And in North America they didn't know what "the rest of the world" meant. deuces wild
Another USA bashing thread I see. China and the USA were the only countries specifically mentioned. Why is it some of you continue to find that sort of thing necessary?BTW: Do you know the USA is the most charitable country in the world, including money and food given to the poor in other countries? So you may want to modify the last line in your little joke. And you may also want to be sensitive to other members of this forum who call the US their home.

andsome
I am absolutely positive that this is purely and simply a joke. I see that dadyassa comes from Spain, although I do not know where he was born. Western Europeans, especially the British and Irish, have a great capacity to laugh at themselves, and not take themselves seriously. I daresay this also applies to Spain. As far as my experience goes, the Germans are about the only ones in Europe who take themselves seriously. In the UK, the all time favourite jokes always start off with, "there was an Irishman, an Englishman, and Scotsman". usually the one that comes out worse is the Irishman, unless the point of the joke is meanness with money, in that case the Scotsman always comes off worse. No one is offended by these jokes, in fact the best tellers of Irish jokes are the Irish. On my visits to the USA, I have always found that you have to be careful, as generally Americans take themselves more seriously than we do. I regularly insult my friends in a light hearted way, and they reciprocate in the same way. We ALWAYS laugh at the joke where someone suffers, and visual humour which has always been popular in the UK is the sort where someone hurts themselves. Please don't take European humour, especially British humour as a serious slight. Regarding any other anti American comments, we appreciate the fact that Americans are generally very generous people, but there is a tendency for us to perceive that in general Americans see everything American as the best, and anything else as not so good. We do tend to get annoyed when we see what is happening to the world, with climate changes taking place, and America refusing to do anything whatsoever to reduce their emissions of carbon gases etc. This said, most of those of us who have visited your country have loved it and have gone out of their way to pay return visits. We in turn own up to MANY faults in our way of life. Particularly in my opinion the British so called class system. I have a strong dislike of ANYTHING to do with Royalty and aristocracy. I deplore the way that engineers in this country are looked down upon, and the so called upper classes frown on money that has been earned rather that inherited. You could have used that as you did Africa, Western Europe and so on....but you didn't....you mentioned the US specifically as having no concern for the rest of the world. The fact escaped you that the US is the most generous Country in the World. Instead you poked fun at us. And I take exception to that. No need to edit. You made your point. And no guilty complex here. Just tired of the US bashing that sometimes goes on here.Time to move on. I made my point.

I will probably upset the Asians and the Canadians now.Like andsome says if you had the same sense of humour as the British you would understand that it is having a dig at the whole world about the situation in a jovial way, but as you are American and think it only applies to you, I will apologize :flowers: :surrender:
