catgate
I'm not sure which board this should go on, but I feel someone will tell me if it is in the wrong place.I have never really taken much notice of coloured inks, other than being aware that the red inks were red, the yellow ones were....etc. and as result I have just used them. However having just bought an Olympus digital SLR ( I think I still prefer my OM film SLRs ) I have become curious about "photo" ink. The image "on screen" is more "luminous" than the printed picture, as one would expect it approximates quite nearly to a transparency, but the colour rendition on paper seems to be less satisfactory than I would have expected. Is this due purely to "flattening" of colours or is it a function of the ink? I am using a Canon BJC-3000 with Canon inks, Media glossy paper, and Adobe Photoshop/Paintshop Pro/Picture it/Picasa2/PhotoImpressions etc. Are the photo inks really any different to ordinary inks or is it just another great marketing ploy? djohn
I can't answer your question catgate other than to say yes, the more colours in your printer the better the photo will look when printed. I have the Canon i850 4 cartridge printer, the output is superb.I can take an original photo of good quality shot on an SLR negative camera, scan it into the PC and when looking at it on screen, it appears exactly the same as the original. If I now print out the uploaded photo and place it at the side of the original, I and several of my friends can't tell the difference between the image on-screen and the two hard copies. This is not to say there is no difference, but it must be minor for none of us to be able to see by naked eye, viewed at normal distance. catgate
Oh! My printer has 4 cartridges.... Blk/C/M/Y but they are only plain "cooking" inks. I have fiddled with scanning in prints from a film camera and printing them out and have not been over impressed, but then that may have been the scanner, its settings, the processing soft ware, the operator or any combination thereof. The reason for getting the digital was to try to get round this. To a large extent it has done, particularly on the accuity front. This may be due to less tranfering of pixels from one place to another. My question arose due to my wife, having spent a good part of the day honing her photographic skills to perfection, and questioning me until my ignorance was fully threadbare, virtually running out of ink. I therefore thought I would have to get the opinion of an experienced user before I went on line and ordered some more. B)
