Tony
HiI am going to attempt to install the phpBB2 forum software, i have uploaded all the files to my web-space, and then went to the instal.exe.It wants to know where my My-sql server is. this is not a problem, but before i give it the details i just want to check something first.I already have two my-sql tables running on my my-sql database server, will the install over write these two tables or will it just create another one underneath? That is my first question so-fari am sure that there will be moreTonyPS when a user adds an image in a post with out it's own storage space, is it stored on my server? Guest Damo
Tony, Ive just recently installed the same forum as you and found in pretty easy, but i had a brand new database, But im sure Craig can answer your question. As for the images, Phpbb2 doesnt allow images to be uploaded, only linked......however there is a mod available for that, but its difficult to install, Ill give you the link if you want.CheersDamo
Guest Damo
From what ive found out Tony, you can have as many tables as you want, if this is your first PhpBB board then it should install fine without overwriting any other tables.Just to be sure though, back up your other tables first.Damo
Craig
If i do a brand new installation of this board, it will overwrite all tables that already exsist from the previous version. However my chat room runs on the same SQL database and it hasn't overwrote that, so i will assume all tables that are not related to the board software you are installing will be fine. Guest Damo
Well, like you say, it all comes down to personal prefrence. Personally I prefer Invision, although I have Phpbb on my site. I dont like Yabb and have never used php-nuke, so i cant comment on that one.I would have used Invision myself but there was a problem with installing it which meant I had to use phpbb, which is starting to grow on me. Craig
When i first thought about making this website, i didnt have a lot of knowledge for things like MySQL, infact i never heard of it before. The only thing i knew i could to was design a semi-okay web design.I found this board easy to install, all you need is your mysql database name, database username and password. insert them on the setup screen and there you go.This board has loads of settings in the background, and the new 1.2 version when it is released looks like it will have even more! And as said above, they have the support forums on their site, and they are very helpfull.
