It is possible to download Internet Explorer for offline installation, which is useful if you have multiple machines to update. You can also download it for all supported operating systems at the same time, allowing you to have a single directory to update a mixture of operating systems.

  • Download ie6setup.exe as normal and place it in it's own directory. In this example we are using "C:\ie6 Download".

  • Create a New Directory for the complete download. In this example we are using "C:\ie6 Complete".

  • Click Start, Run and enter the following command as shown in italics. Make sure you include all of the punctuation marks.
We suggest you copy and paste the following line, as it must be exact. Replace "C:\ie6 download\" with the location you downloaded the file to.

    "C:\ie6 download\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"

  • When the setup wizard starts, you will be prompted to choose which operating system you want to download for and where you want to store the files. Choose the directory you created above.

  • After pressing OK, wait while the download is complete.

Once complete you can copy the IE6 Complete directory to a CD or network location and use it to install on all machines by running the ie6setup.exe file that you will find in the folder.

If you already have an older version of Internet Explorer on your computer, you do not need to uninstall it before installing this version. Any bookmarks and settings from the previous version of Internet Explorer will be transferred to the new version. You may proceed to the instructions for Installing IE 6.0 SP1.

Installing IE 6.0 SP1

  • If you are using a Windows 2000/XP computer, log in as an Administrator.

  • Download the installer. (Shown Above)

  • When the download is complete, close all other open programs. Make sure to save your work.

  • Browse to the folder you downloaded the file to and double-click on the ie6setup.exe icon.
