Can't play DVDs in computer

Recommended Posts

I have a Liteon 5045 DVD HDD recorder and I have recorded some TV programmes to the hard disc than recorded some of them to Datawrite DVD-R disc's which play back on the recorder but not on the computer on a Toshiba SD M1402 DVD ROM drive. OS is XP Home. Someone on another forum has said he has the same recorder and the same DVD disc's and has no problems although he has a different DVD ROM drive in his computer.

I have WMP V10 and at first it would not play any DVDs so I downloaded a free trial of Nvidia DVD decoder for it and now it plays commercially produced DVDs but not those I have recorded on the Liteon. I have finalised the DVDs. The funny thing is I recorded on the disc that came with the recorder and my first attempt to play it before it was finalised was ok, so I went back to finalise it and discovered it was a DVD-RW disc, however when I tried again it would not play in the computer.

I have spoken to Liteon, and they think it might be a compatibility problem with the DVD ROM drive, I cannot find this model on the Toshiba site to look for an updated driver/firmware, as the drive is only five years old could it be out of date regarding these DVDs?

Any help greatly appreciated.

I have to agree a new drive is the answer. I gave a dvd to a friend who has a Liteon dvd rw drive and it played ok with PowerDVD, WMP and Realplayer however would not play it!

I then downloaded a free trial of PowerDVD and it would not play in my computer drive, thats what leads me to think the drive in incompatable.

I have one more thing to try before buying a new drive, I have another system with a later drive which might do the job so I'm going to try that today.

I will post back when I finally resolve it.

I have just changed the DVD drive and WMP works perfectly so thats that solved.

One problem with the free trial of PowerDVD, when I put a dvd in it searches the floppy drive and then gives a message "no disc in drive A" and it won't play the dvd, no matter, I'm happy to use WMP.

Thank you all for your help, much appreciated,

Regards,

Sapins.
