madboy33
Hi all Windows XP with a DVD-RW and a DVD-ROM I loaded AVG free edition last night and scanned the system, no virus found. Tonight i went to play a dvd and it would not work, so i checked a data disc and this would not work. Both drives have stopped working. I have uninstalled AVG and still not working. Scarecrow Man
I've seen something like this before, and fixed it, but the problem came back.Anyways, here's how I did it.1. Make a backup first!2. Start > Run > regedit3. browse to:hkey_local_machine>System>CurrentControlSet>Control>Class>{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}(that last value may be different for you. Just look for the default key of "DVD/CD-ROM drives")4. remove any key with the name "UpperFilter" or "LowerFilter"5. rebootRemember, this worked temporarily only. The problem came back.I would also try reinstalling Alcohol 120.

Scarecrow Man
I cannot explain it, but the problem came back after about a month for me. Then again, I was using an external USB CD burner and it was the internal drive that was going missing.Glad you got it sorted. :D
