primavera Posted April 22, 2005 Report Share Posted April 22, 2005 Hullo, it may seem like I just come here to complain, but I am fascinated by how Windows regularly does things I don't want it to and (the really intriguing part) does things that they are hard to describe (and imagine a keyword for when you try to use Windows Help). Does this just happen to me?Anyway, now it's this: when I open, save, etc to my Documents folder (i.e. from within a program's dialogue box), it used to list the subdirectories in alphabetical order, subdirectories at the top, files at the bottom. Then one day, boom! suddenly the view is: all the files at the top and subdirectories underneath. The files are in descending chronological order (newest at the top) and Windows has convinced itself that the subdirectories are also listed by "last modified" date, but has got it totally wrong (e.g. the Music folder is among the "latest modified" and I've never touched it, and a folder I use all the time has a last-modified date of January). Result is, everytime I need to save or open something I have to get it list everything by name so I can locate the subdirectory I'm looking for. Ev-er-y ti-m-e. So, three questions: - why did it suddenly decide to list everything by date modified, all the time- how come it gets the modified dates all wrong, - and how do I tell it to go back to alphabetical order? Next click 'View' from the Toolbar and then click 'Details' in the menu. Next in the right pane, click the 'Name' tab at the top of the name listings. This will arrange the list by 'Name'. Try this several times to be sure the order listing reverses. When you have the order list set A-Z, hold the 'CTRL' key and click the 'X' in the upper right corner of Explorer to close it.
