Office 2000 problem w/XP Pro

Recommended Posts

I have Office 2000 Premium installed on a multi user system with XP Pro SP2. It is installed on a FAT32 drive so all users can have access to it. Everyone has the program icons on thier start menus. But when they try to launch any of the Office 2000 programs, the Windows installer trys to install Office 2000. Then an error dialog appears stating the source cannot be found. But if you cancel the Windows installer before the error dialog appears, the program will launch and it's ready to be used.

I don't have this problem under my profile, as I installed the program under my logon. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is and how I can correct it? Or do I need to re-install it another way? I can't seem to figure out why this is happening, and I can't afford to lose any more of my hair on this!

Of the three users on this system, two of us are Admin, and one is limited but in the power user group.

I tried inserting the disc and still got the error dialog that no valid source could be found for Office 2000 Premium and the installer could not continue. The programs work, but you have to cancel the installer every time you launch it. It's quite aggravating!

It doesn't ask for a source. The installer opens once the icon is clicked, and then the error dialog appears. The problem exists only in the other profiles, not under mine. The program was installed under my profile. But the drive is FAT32, so I would think that the programs should be accessible under all profiles. Or am I mistaken?

I tried to use the repair feature in Office 2000, but it didn't work. So I uninstalled the program and then re-installed it. I left the disc in as I launched Office 2000 for each user. Windows installer launched and configured Office 2000 for each user. Now it's working for everyone.

I want to thank ya'll for your help. Although I'm sure I'll find something soon that will make me want to pull out my hair again.

:throw:
