k_grdn1 Posted July 25, 2005 Report Share Posted July 25, 2005 Hi When installing windows 98 on a laptop which previously run XP I confronted with a fatal exeption 0E has occured at 0028: followed by random hex digits which change when I press a key to continue. My theory is that it has something to do with plug and play devices or unavailable drivers. In the BIOS there's no option to turn of plug and play devices. You may be wondering why the hell I want to go back to 98. IT's to run diagnostic testing software which will only run on 98. If so, I presume that you have got rid of it and created a new FAT32 partition ? If not - use your 98 boot floppy to fdisk the drive and then format it.Otherwise ???? Perhaps Win98 does not have the necessary drivers for the laptop - which presumably came with XP home pre-installed ? k_grdn1 Posted July 26, 2005 Author Report Share Posted July 26, 2005 Hi Boris Thanks for the suggestions and provided links.Done a low level format before installing 98 and formated FAT 32. Another problem the Laptop has no floppy drive. Followed the first link started in safe mode and unchecked the driver in System.ini but same problem.
