Digital Camcorder transfer to pc

Recommended Posts

I wonder whether any body can help - there seems to be something not quite right. A few months ago I successfully transferred a recording from a JVC Digital camcorder via Nero onto my pc. I tried the same yesterday and although it transfers it is in avi format. When a DVD+R disc is attempted to be burnt it then states that the format is incompatible with the disc or suggesting that I change the settings.

On looking at the software manual it says that by default it transfers in dv-type 1 format. I can not see how I can change it back to DV type format on the pc in the software. I have also looked at the camcorder manual but it does not give any further information.

Does anybody have any clues or suggestions. Many thanks in advance if you are able to help.

I have reinstalled Nero Suite and then downloaded some updates that I was advised was available.

Restarted using Nero Express 3 - when the capturing was started it showed that it was using DV Type1 which is what appeared on the previous occasion.

However after burning to the disc the following error message came up which was the original problem that was highlighted yesterday as follows:

"Sorry your compilation cannot be written on this kind of disc. Please insert a disc of the correct type or modify the settings of your compilation to make them compatible with the current disc".

When I first did some capturing and burning I used Logik DVD+R discs and the discs I am attempting to use now are Imation DVD+R discs.

I am sorry I just don't understand what is going on now as I thought I had solved it.

My son does a lot of video/DVD work and his opinion is that, good as Nero is for most things, it is pretty near hopeless for anything to do with DVD manipulation.

I've just spoken to him and he suggests that, in the absence of software with your camcorder (there ought to have been something provided) try out WinDVD Creator http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/WinDVDCreator_Profile.jsp There is a free trial to see if you like it.

I use ulead software, but I have just had a look in Nero for you ;)

DVD`s have to be burnt in MPEG2 format.

To get this on Nero vision 3, hook up your camera with firewire to PC,

start nero vision,

click on capture video,

on select a capturing template dropdown menu, selct custom,

In details box, in file type dropdown menu, select MPEG2.

In theory this should capture it in the right file type to burn to DVD, I have never tried it myself but.......

AS i said I use ulead movie factory which has a trial period of 30 days, just download it and give it a go if Nero plays up. I tried quite a few before picking Ulead.

Just spoken to son again. He agrees there is nothing wrong with Ulead either - it's just a personal preference.

One to avoid is Pinnacle. This is complex, long winded (processing can take overnight for just a short film) and difficult to get on with.

With Ulead and WinDVD together you have sixty days worth of programs - get to it! :)
