EdBoy7713 Posted September 5, 2005 Report Share Posted September 5, 2005 Hey guys - I've got an AMD 64 CPU running at 1.8 ghz, 1GB DDR2 RAM, and a ATI Radeon 9600, if it has anything to do with it....lol. I just put togeather a new system, and it randomly restarts every hour or two....any ideas? I have no clue what could be causing this but it's getting pretty annoying...I've scanned with AVG, Ad-Aware, and Spyboy: S & D, but I'm all clean...(!?)...thanks a lot guys...Sean Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted September 5, 2005 Report Share Posted September 5, 2005 Random restarts are often caused by overheating- see my recent post about this.http://forums.neoplanet.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=20573Check this potential cause out before looking further by measuring the temperatures in your system. In a modern computer, there is usually a probe system installed that will measure temperatures and display them graphically. Keep an eye on this over a period of time and watch the trends. EdBoy7713 Posted September 5, 2005 Author Report Share Posted September 5, 2005 thanks a lot....I do have like 5 fans (excluding CPU fan, onboard motherboard fan, video card fan, and PSU fan...lol) so I didn't think it could possibly be overheating....and ideas?by the way I downloaded that everest program and attached a screen print of the temperatures page....I have also looked at the temp in the BIOS Setup upon startup and it's always seemed fine..... -pops- Posted September 5, 2005 Report Share Posted September 5, 2005 Temperature control is not necessarily achieved by stuffing as many fans as you can into a computer case. Wrongly sited, having a large number of fans can be as bad (perhaps worse) as having too few.It is essential to consider things like airflow and efficient cooling of the vital parts of the machine such as the CPU. If you have it arranged that the CPU fan is doing nothing more than recirculating previously heated air through your numerous fans, it isn't going to realise very much.Regarding the temperature measurements, when were these taken? It is essential to take several readings over a long period of time before anything meaningful can be deduced - that is why I mentioned a graphical representation. Check on your motherboard manual to see if there is any software, either provided or that you can download, that will offer this temperature (and other) measuring and recording facilities.It is quite possible, of course, that excessive temperatures are not responsible for the faults you are seeing but, it is the most likely cause and I feel you must positively eliminate this as a reason before progressing further.
