Apple Posted September 12, 2005 Report Share Posted September 12, 2005 I can't install Service Pack 2 on my computer, as when I do so it will go for about a minute if I'm lucky without crashing. Also, when it crashes my screen changes to a solid colour, sometimes blue, sometimes red etc (basically it's like you've filled the screen with a colour in paint, and then viewed it in full screen mode). It will also sometimes change to multi-coloured stripes.Anyone have any idea what the problem is? -pops- Posted September 13, 2005 Report Share Posted September 13, 2005 Most often, difficulties with installing SP2 are due to something wrong with the Windows installation that you are trying to update. This may be corruption of the operating system itself or the presence of some malware (virus, trojan etc).The easiest way to get over SP2 problems is to do a fresh install of XP. A much less reliable method is to check your system for the presence of things that shouldn't be there and then check the installation itself for errors. -pops- Posted September 13, 2005 Report Share Posted September 13, 2005 If I remember correctly, the SP2 disk will get the conditions right for its installation itself. It's when there is either part of the O/S missing or there are hidden nasties around that problems occur.If you want the best performance from your computer, I suggest that you don't delay doing a new install and putting SP2 on. This will repair any system files which may fix your problem.In your original post you mentioned the screen filling up with one solid colour. That may be a video problem.
