WindowsXP Installation w/ other partitions on disk

Hello!

I have a problem installing Windows XP on my computer. I have 4 primary partitions on my 180 GB hard disk: 1: Windows, 2: Linux, 3: Data, 4: Linux-Swap. The Windows partition is formatted with FAT32, the Linux partition with Ext3, the data partion with ReiserFS 3.6.

Windows doesn't want to install and stops with 0x000000007B error code. I searched a bit on the web, but nothing is said about such a problem.

There is also a SATA controller on-board, but I pressed F6 and loaded the appropriate driver. Plus there is no problem with the hard disk or cabling, it is configured as UDMA and has a 80-pin cable.

I have this problem only because Windows 98 refuses to work when my SATA controller in enabled in BIOS. It doesn't start any more, so no driver can be loaded, and even if I install the driver and enable it then, it freezes at startup.

Perhaps anybody can help me with one of these problems.

Thanks,

Mathis

I also read the "inaccessible boot device" stories, but sadly all I read did not apply to my situation. There is nothing wrong with the partition, I think WinXP is not satisfied with one partition and looks for others, but it can't read ReiserFS and blows it.

I load the SATA driver because else I get a 0x00000000ED error, this I already figured out myself. Though the setup does not have to do anything with my second hard disk, it wants the driver. There is one big partition on my second hard disk, also with ReiserFS 3.6 on it.

 If Windows XP would just set up itself and not look for so many other things, it all would be fine. If I wanted to interact with other partitions, I'd say it...
