Craig
just put another bid in, £46. No one has put a higher bid in yet.I have also just purchased a CDROM off Ebay from someone in Tredworth that claims for a fee (less than the cost of XP) i will get a years subscription to MS and they will send me updates of software and full versions.Sounds like an MSDN subscription. Anyway i just had a chat with him on MSN and all sound legit. If not, i know where he lives.
Guest Nellie2
Now I'm confused...... don't you get that to download for free from the update site??Are you still pulling my leg?? Is my parcel waiting for me when I get home I wonder??I am going to take the bull by the horns and flash my bios tonight...... so if you don't see me you will know that I have fried my mobo. :(
Craig
i dont think i explained it that well. Here is the link to the product.I always wanted to participate in that sort of programme with MS, but the subscriptions i saw were £500 - £5000 :o
Guest Nellie2
ooooh.. :) You will have to bear with me Craig!! With the time I am spending here I am slowly being initiated into the art of knowing what I am talking about.........but I still talk a load of piffle a lot of the time. If it is straight up then it looks like a very good deal.........hopefully not too good to be true!Oh by the way.......my bios is all flashy and up to date........didn't hurt a bit but - just in case anyone else is thinking of doing it, my motherboard site provided good instructions and I read them and digested them and then read them again and followed them to the letter. I would have aborted the whole operation if I wasn't 100% sure in what I was doing...........and it was still scarey. The postman has been and I have to pick a parcel up from the sorting office, but I won't be able to do that until Saturday morning.......can I wait??? Craig
I have done a BIOS update a few times, but i still worry about doing them.Luckily when i feel the need to do an update, i install a piece of software that came with my motherboard, and it downloads the update and then tells me what to do.The only thing i really worry about is a power cut in the middle of the update, sods law really. My week off is next week, so hopefully if I get another copy of XP anytime soon i will be able to update my computer from xp home to pro, then install xp home on my win me machine and setup a nice wireless network. Then on my 3rd computer i may set it up as server for my house!!!! ranger
Craig, I thought about setting up a wireless network for the 4 pc's we have in the house, but the speed issue of it put me off and I ended up running cat 5 cable throughout the house and using a 100MBPS hub(much to the annoyance of the missus, I did put the cabling behind the skirting, under floorboards etc to hide it though) My problem is, I am hoping to move houses within the next 6 weeks, and frankly I don't know if I can be bothered with all the carry on of putting in cabling and the work it involves (don't know if the missus would let me anyway). If you do set up a wireless network, I would appreciate your thoughts on it, speed, any problems, issues etc.cheers,Ranger
Craig
I am looking at possibly buying a wireless network that supports 54Mbps.I have also just found out that my yearly subscription to MS will be £199, which is more than i thought, but then you do get all the new software. So if i take out the subscription in two years time, i will get the new MS operating systems before anyone else!
